WALKING TOURS - WANDERUNGEN

The first exhibition in 2023 is dedicated to works by Richard Kettler, passionate autodidact who has achieved some fame in Potsdam. The psychoanalyst and doctor of medicine, who has been painting and drawing continuously since his earliest youth, is connected to the art city of Potsdam in many ways.

After the early support of his art teacher at school, the painter Heinrich Schulte, the Potsdam painter and late impressionist Egon von Kameke (1881 -1955), whose works he acquired in large numbers, and the painter Hubert Globisch (1914 -2004), who deeply impressed and inspired him, became great role models. In November 1994, as a collector, he organized an exhibition of works by Hubert Globisch in his private apartment in Berlin, which was opened by the eminent art historian Helmut Börsch-Supan. Richard Kettler spent painting trips together with the Potsdam artist Christian Heinze and both exhibited together.

The exhibition "WALKING TOURS / WANDERUNGEN" is the artist's fifth exhibition in Potsdam. Of course, she is inspired by Fontane's wanderings. While Fontane draws with words, Kettler draws with the colors of the Märkische landscape around Berlin, which he hiked with great joy after the fall of the Wall. Not so much balance and training is the motivation of hiking, but rather, shaped by a childhood as a farmer's son, Kettler opens up the old cultural landscapes on his numerous journeys.

In his 80th year, the artist takes us on new paths. While small formats were previously dominant, which were often created spontaneously on site, he now takes the landscapes mentally into the studio and thus creates metaphors with a mythological aura.
